first, a sudden and prolonged splattering of
heavy water droplets—or ice, I can’t tell which—pelting the window in the
middle of the night
hail?
fat rain?
then, a low rumble begins to sound overhead …
picks up decibels and speed … expanding into a gash of deafening thunder
lightning
that I missed?
the pink glow growing into a northeast sunset
sky, deepening and brightening in turns; the next day it’s a sunrise in the
southeast sky that spills mauve, coral, and dainty blue across nature’s ceiling
photograph
it, savor it to it’s natural conclusion, or get to my meeting on time?
a flash of something dark outside meets
my peripheral vision … drop everything in my lap … leap across the room … grab
cameras … fly downstairs … position myself at a different window … to see a
bushy coyote crossing the yard
his
den, how close?
leaving a bookmaking class, I get
pushed back inside by a gust of windy hail; torrents soak my head in the twenty
paces to my car
protect
my handmade book inside my coat!
extravagant nature. rich scenes and sounds.
unexpected beauties. startling force of
elements.
simple nature. stunning nature. in love—all over
again smitten—with all of nature’s
reverie-inspirations.
