Welcome!

Welcome! This is a place to share how we celebrate & deepen our relationship to Nature. Here you will find stories, images, & ideas about wilderness, human nature, & soulfulness. Drawing from the experiences of everyday living, the topics on this blog include: forays into the natural world, the writing life, community service, meditation, creativity, grief & loss, inspiration, & whatever else emerges from these. I invite you on this exploration of the wild within & outside of us: the inner/outer landscape.

Polka Dot Autumn

They’re everywhere: this autumn-on-its-way is coming up dots!

... insect-chewed holes in the dock plant in our yard, my antidote-attempt ...

... tattoo pinpricks on my shin from nettles ...

... decay on leaves - nature’s beautiful effort to adorn seasonal transition ...

... mushroom bodies betraying the location of their underground root system, lining the hiking trail for many steps ...

... pocked pears that have fallen - food for a host of hungry critters ...

... sunlit splotches on the tree-shadowed ground ...

... hail – spherical polka dots – pelting the skylight ...

... clusters of seed pods dotting the edges of roads under maple trees ...

... raindrops visible on dirt, leaves, our deck, my face ...

... fallen yellow berry leaves – a confetti sprinkling atop moss atop nurse logs atop pine needles atop soil ...

... red apples still clinging to the emerald orchard tree limbs, not unlike the red crayon blobs on green circle of my early childhood tree drawings ...

... a hole – the pneumostome - on the side of the proliferating banana slugs ...

... spider-weavers’ webs spotted with captured insects ...

It appears as if even nature is glad to celebrate the season!
