A Few Weekly Notes on Beauty

A sunset over the water,

Perfect though not flawless:

Human power lines intersect with Douglas firs, salmon water, a burgeoning painted sky, and leafless alders whose twiggy branches create negative space wonders of geometry…

We sit at an indoor table, awed by the natural view-becoming that we see with ease from hard chairs;

We stand on a rock and cement porch littered with brown pine needles, knowing we are blessed to feel the cold spikes of air on our gaped-mouth chins as we wonder how we ever could have left this land of daily ecosplendor.

The seeming hardship of moving boxes, fifty mile detours around a closed interstate, and bedlessness begins to dim in light of the glowing colors at the horizon, reflected in sensuous ripples of mauve, peach, and Shwedagon-Pagoda-gold-leaf in the waters of the port across our little country road.

Home is an “inside job” for explorers like us, glorified transients – the heart’s work, helped along by the soulfood of Nature equals hearth, warm and burning brightly within.
