Welcome!

Welcome! This is a place to share how we celebrate & deepen our relationship to Nature. Here you will find stories, images, & ideas about wilderness, human nature, & soulfulness. Drawing from the experiences of everyday living, the topics on this blog include: forays into the natural world, the writing life, community service, meditation, creativity, grief & loss, inspiration, & whatever else emerges from these. I invite you on this exploration of the wild within & outside of us: the inner/outer landscape.

Creative Collaboration #2

Fellow interfaith practitioner, island neighbor, spiritual poet extraordinaire, and – best of all – friend, Emily decided several months ago to write a few poems that she paired with my visual creative work. We’re thrilled to be collaborating in this way. And we want to share them with you again.

We are each posting them on our blogs in close proximity to one another.

This is our second pairing:

Cetacean*

By EmilyJane Mockett

*collective noun to describe all 90 species of whales, dolphins and porpoises

At Eco-tone of
open sky and sea
Cetacean play out
their lives, bare
What fluid edges
of their belief
Embodied of ocean
& vitality of air
Oh if I could speak
their language
Converse with tones
cetacean wise
Maybe I could
embrace my sage
The polarities—
paradox of life’s surprise

(You can find this on Emily’s blog on July 23rd.)

Here are two of my collages that featured whales during this year’s #the100dayproject. The first is Day #34, After the Humpback Breached. It was inspired by a photo I took from the Seattle/Bainbridge ferry, WA in 2022. The second collage is from Day #63 and is titled Humpback’s Sacred Breath. I took the photo inspiring this collage in Guerrero Negro, BCS, Mexico in 2009.
